Campaign Loves MVRDV & The Lovely Floating Things They Do

I have always loved MVRDV and now eventually they have built on UK soil [almost the Serpentine Pavillion, damn recession], via the amazing thinking of Alain de Botton

The project is the first of five in Alain de Botton’s Living Architecture project and available for rent from 22 October.

Balancing Barn, a cantilevered holiday home near the village of Thorington in Suffolk, England, was completed last Tuesday. The Barn is 30 meters long, with a 15 meters cantilever over a slope, plunging the house headlong into nature. .

Living Architecture, an organization devoted to the experience of modern architecture, commissioned MVRDV in 2008.

Go love the English countryside.

Fiona Banner - Harrier and Jaguar

Words cannot begin to describe the sheer quantities of awesomeness emanating from the Duveen Galleries in the Tate at the moment. Artist Fiona Banner has suspended a Sea Harrier fighter plane from its tail and chromed out a Jaguar fighter plane. If you haven't seen it yet, please, go. Thou will shed no regret.

"I remember long sublime walks in the Welsh mountains with my father, when suddenly a fighter plane would rip through the sky, and shatter everything. It was so exciting, loud and overwhelming; it would literally take our breath away. The sound would arrive from nowhere, all you would see was a shadow and then the plane was gone.

At the time harrier jump jets were at the cutting edge of technology but to me they were like dinosaurs, prehistoric, from a time before words."  – Fiona Banner

Campaign Design Wins An Award!

We at Campaign are bursting at the seams with pride at being the recipients of the RetailWeek Interiors Award for 'Best Pop Up Store of the Year' for our Dr. Martens Pop Up shop at the Old Spitalfields Market in London. We would like to thank everyone involved in realising the project. We would also like to thank our mums, dads, grandparents, dogs, neighbours, milkmen and other generic cliched influential figures in our lives.

The two in the middle belong to us...Phil on the centre-right and Neil as Lord Byron on the centre-left.

Presidency by Thomas Demand

Do not be fooled! The photograph above is not of the Oval Office but of a 1:1 scale model of the Oval Office made out of paper and card. Thomas Demand, a Berlin-based artist, meticulously constructs spaces out of paper and card and then purposely photographs them to look real. The true nature of the image only starts to appear under intense scrutiny.

Demand is currently exhibiting a photograph in the 'This is Sculpture' exhibition at the Tate Liverpool and is well worth a gander.

Burberry launch a Fashion Theatre//

It could be the ultimate shopping experience for fashionistas - buying from your iPad while you sit in the front row of a fashion show.

Burberry today unveiled plans to turn its Bond Street store into a hi-tech "fashion theatre" for its upcoming London Fashion Week show.

50 of the firm’s biggest customers will be able to see the spring and summer collection as it is revealed on the catwalk on September 21.
However, unlike those at the show, customers will then be able to see the items up close and place their orders - all with the touch of a button via an iPad they will be given.

A fluff board//

Gonçalo Campos points us to his remarkable rethink of the standard whiteboard or paper-based message board. His version uses a synthetic fur as a medium; when users trace letters and shapes in the fur, the displacement of the fabric gives the look of having made a distinct mark.

Villa NURBS by Ruiz Geli

Villa NURBS is a private residence developed by spanish architect Enric Ruiz Geli in collaboration with artist Frederic Amat and ceramist Toni Cumella. The house has been designed entirely using NURB modelling software. Using ETFE cushions for skylights, ceramic cladding for direct heat transfer, the construct is pushing the boundaries of the way architecture is conceived, from the design process to the materials used. Granted, the project is over budget and over schedule, but such is the price for the avant-garde!
